The Angel of Evil by Kenneth B. Andersen The Great Devil War IV

img_5396The Great Devil War is back with this fourth tale, The Angel of Evil. The next stop on this epic blog tour ready for Kenneth B. Andersen’s next fantasy adventure featuring Philip Engel, the Devils first apprentice who in previous novels has helped save the Devil himself from death, destruction and theft.

This fourth novel really cranks up the ante. In the third we are left on a cliff hanger. Philip has secumbed to the devil inside him and had tortured a traitor of Lucifer to find the whereabouts of Satina, who was abducted by Philip’s archenemy, Aziel. The devil who has been ruthlessly plotting to overthrow Lucifer.

This action packed read builds up to the final battle, the War in Hell that Aziel has been plotting since his exile. Aziel has amassed an army and devils have been leaving Hell to side with him. As Aziel has promised them their immortality back. Philip meanwhile searches for Satina, and when he finds her she doesn’t recognise him. Just what has Aziel done to her?

Philips journey in this novel takes him back through Hell, into Outer Reach and back up into Paradise to help re-set the balance of the terror that Aziel has inflicted upon Hell and the world. There is a mystery to Aziel’s plans and Philip fights with all his devilishness in him to thwart Aziel.

Lucifer, God, Death and many other characters help Philip along the way to restoring balance in the wake of chaos, that finally culminates in an epic battle that sees devil fight devil.

The story is paced nicely, giving you enough to keep you turning the pages, it’s not overly heavy in plot or language. The imagery gets a little darker in this one when describing some of the events but that’s what keeps you gripped. The lore within the world that Kenneth has created gets even more interesting as more and more references to Biblical and mythological events come together to enhance this story.

For me this book felt as though it was the conclusion to the series. However, I could not be more wrong, as there is another one to come. I’m not sure what could possibly be left to tell but I’m interested and eager to find out.

I will continue to say this is devilishly delightful.

  1. Great review! I think this one was my favourite book in the whole series and I agree that it seems like it would’ve been a good place to conclude the series. I’m looking forward to seeing how it actually ends though!
