Crossing in time by D.L. Orton

Crossing in TimeIt is no secret that I’m not a fan of romance or novels that are primarily love stories. They just simply aren’t ones I enjoy as I find most of the time they are cringe-worthy. However, I joined this blog tour as there is a sci-fi/ dystopian element to the story and one I hoped would outweigh the romanticism.

I am pleased to say that despite the major love story element, I did enjoy this novel. The writing is good, the story flows through each event nicely and doesn’t drag along. (Maybe at times with some of the interactions between our two lovers) But I can’t deny the fact that the way the story is constructed is good, and characters are nicely developed and even likable. The narrative changes from one character to another which makes it a better way to tell the story. It’s not just from the perspective of our two lovers. We get to read what else is going on in the world and why the world is in danger.

Isabel and Diego’s path cross again after a bad break up and they wonder if their relationship could be rekindled. Isabel is unsure, but when she is caught up in a fire, after an explosion – that leaves a strange sphere in the same spot that Isabel was trapped – and is rescued by Diego, they know they are meant to be together.

However, they get involved with a government agency investigating the sphere. This sphere holds secrets, one leading to time travel across different universes. When Diego dies after attempting a journey across space and time, Isabel is desperate to connect with him and therefore goes on a trip herself and meets a younger Diego. She must connect with him to change the fate of the world if not the universe. Why? Because while all this is going on, the world comes under attack from a deadly virus and Isabel and Diego’s connection is the key to combating the spread.

Overall if you are really into stories with love and romance as a main theme interspersed with a ‘love can save the world’ angle, then this is a book for you. Add the sci-fi element and it makes it more palatable.

The book ends where the story can be picked up in the second of the series. Would I want to continue with finding what happens with Isabel and Diego? I’m undecided…

  1. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing, Hayley. 💕

I know you have lots of choices on how to spend your time, so I appreciate you taking a chance on a romance-y sci-fi adventure mystery! 😜

The second book in the series is less lovey-dovey and more sci-fi adventure, so you might like that one better. If you’d like to give it a try, DM me (@DL_Orton) or drop me an email, and we’ll figure out how to get a free copy to you.

    Take care! 😷

    1. Hi, thank you so much for taking time to read my review. I really did enjoy the sci-fi element and the whole end of the world is my go to. Hence giving this a read. I’d certainly like to try the second one, now you’ve mentioned the romance is toned down. 😉 I just think I’m not a romantic at heart. 😜I’ll send you a DM. 🥰
