The Wrongful Death: The Great Devil War III by Kenneth B. Andersen

a1TRRBm9If you’ve been following The Great Devil War blog tours then you’ll be interested to know that this third instalment of the series, The Wrongful Death is another good read.

We are back with Philip, who has successfully returned from Hell, again, and is back with his mother. All is well, but he still has fleeting fond memories of his time there. On one particular school day, Sam (the school bully and the first choice to have been the Devils Apprentice) unknowingly takes a summoning pill that Satina gave to Philip should he want to return to Hell to visit. This causes Sam’s death and Philip has to go back to search for Sam as his death was a mistake.

There, back in Hell Philip meets up with Satina and they journey to find Sam, however Sam is not in Hell, he is in another underworld. With Lucifer and God’s agreement they travel to more unknown places in search of Sam. While all this is happening there is a great divide between the Devil community and old enemies are stirring plotting and planning a Great War.

This third instalment really sets up for the next one and although we visit Hell again, we do get to go to Paradise and meet the Almighty himself. This is wonderful as you get a real sense of the authors vision of Paradise and his interpretation is just as delightful as his depiction of Hell. What I found strange in this novel was the the combination of Greek mythology being thrown into the mix. That shouldn’t work but Kenneth has made it work somehow. The fact that different religions have a place in the whole make up of the afterlife is something that is quite different and I’m not sure has been done before.

Again I loved revisiting old characters and seeing the way they have developed. Philip is certainly one who by the end of this book is not who he started out as. The Devil within him is stirring.

The plot is nicely laid out and doesn’t drag too much, there are a couple of surprises in who is deceiving whom in trying to rage war with Lucifer but this is a way to set up for the next in the series.

Again an overall good read and surprisingly I’m not tired of the series. As always a read that’s delightfully devilish.
